My Journey - From Struggles to Software Development Engineer
Hi, I’m Akash 👋
A software developer who didn’t take the straight road — but learned how to walk longer.
My journey into tech didn’t start with coding bootcamps, fancy degrees, or early success.
It started with failure, confusion, and a lot of self-doubt.
My Journey
I completed my 10th grade in 2016. Like many others, I chose the science stream in 11th due to peer pressure — without real interest or clarity. That decision cost me two academic years. I failed 11th twice.
Watching my friends move ahead while I stayed back was mentally exhausting. I felt demotivated, isolated, and lost. Eventually, in frustration and anger, I dropped out of school.
For some time, I struggled with depression and uncertainty.
But one thing stayed constant — my interest in computers.
From Cyber Café to Code
In 2018, through my uncle’s reference, I joined a cyber café. I worked there for about 1.5 years.
That job didn’t give me a career, but it gave me clarity.
I realized something very important:
Without education and skills, long-term growth is almost impossible.
That realization pushed me back into academics.
Restarting Education (The Right Way)
I completed my 12th through open schooling (science stream) in 2020. It wasn’t easy, but I cleared it. During that time, I also tried preparing for government jobs and attempted a few exams, but without success.
Around the same time, I discovered BCA — and for the first time, I heard the word “coding” explained properly.
I didn’t even know the term before, but I instantly knew:
This is what I always wanted to do.
I took admission in BCA in 2020.
Learning to Code (Slow, Real, Honest)
Initially, I didn’t even have a laptop.
I learned basic Python using my phone and my mentor’s laptop.
When I finally got my own laptop, I made mistakes — wasted time on games, movies, and distractions. But self-awareness hit again. I refocused and started learning HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and basic JavaScript.
I wasn’t fast — but I was consistent.
First Job (Through Skill, Not Degrees)
In 2022, a simple UI project I built caught someone’s attention through a referral.
That led to my first job as a Junior Frontend Developer Intern (₹8,000/month).
I was nervous. I lacked confidence. I doubted myself.
Eventually, I was moved to WordPress development — and I mastered it. I could build complete websites from scratch in a few hours. After completing my internship, I was offered a full-time WordPress developer role.
I declined it.
Not because it was a bad opportunity —
but because I wanted to be a software engineer, not just comfortable.
Becoming a Full-Stack Developer
In 2023, I joined a freelance-based role as a Full-Stack (MERN) Developer, earning ₹30,000/month.
I worked on real projects, real bugs, real deadlines, and real responsibility.
This role continued until May 2025.
During this phase, I:
- Improved my backend thinking
- Worked with real databases and APIs
- Learned how production systems behave
- Understood how software scales beyond tutorials
I even bought my own MacBook from my earnings — a small but meaningful milestone.
Where I Am Now
In July 2025, I enrolled in MCA to strengthen my academic foundation alongside my practical experience.
Today:
- I’m not a beginner
- I’m not a tutorial-only developer
- I’ve seen failure, rejection, comfort, and risk
Now, my goal is clear:
My Goal
🎯 To become a Software Development Engineer (SDE)
Someone who:
- Thinks in systems, not just syntax
- Solves problems, not just tasks
- Builds scalable, maintainable software
What I Believe In
- Consistency beats talent
- Clarity beats speed
- Depth beats shortcuts
- Failure is data, not identity
Final Note
I didn’t arrive early.
But I arrived prepared.
If you’re reading this and your path wasn’t linear — you’re not behind.
You’re just building resilience most people never get.
Let’s build good software.
One solid decision at a time.
